Artiste Française

When I lived in France, my apartment was nearby a local artist who held different art workshops for children. The inspiration for Artiste Française came from his atelier and from watching the kids expressing themselves through painting.

My goal was clear: Artiste Française had to be a game that would let anyone, independently of their drawing skills, experience the same joy that the kids were having during the workshops. To challenge myself I set additional restrictions for the project:

  • It had to be coded in XNA
  • It had to be finished within 14 days
  • It had to use the Xbox 360 controller as interface

These restrictions helped me whenever I had to make a decision. For example, I intended to create an eye-catching demo and yet couldn’t afford spending much time on crafting elaborated art. So instead I took photos of real objects from the artist’s workshop and used these as the art assets of my project. You can watch the final result here:
