Interactive Floor
What would you do if your university asks you to build an interactive installation to promote new courses among its students? That was the challenge we faced in early 2009 at MediaLab La Salle.
We realized immediately that it would be very difficult to ask students to stop their daily routines and pay attention to this kind of information. Hence our decision to create a very non-obstructive installation that everyone would enjoy by just walking over it. We looked for the busiest corridor at university and installed a setup that projected images on the floor: these would change in different ways whenever a person stepped on them.
Several variations were developed, including a second installation with another projection on the wall that communicated with the original one on the floor. After the end of the project I moved to the UK to work for Relentless Software. Later my teammates Victor Hugo and Alberto created the following video to showcase the key aspects of the project. We hope you enjoy it!
